Fee comparison: how Northcrypto's tiers compare with three competitors

During 2026 Northcrypto moved from a fixed trading fee to a volume-tiered model, and the same trend can be seen at other exchanges. On 5 September 2026 we compared the public price lists of all four exchanges, at their best (high volume) and at their worst (small, occasional purchase):

ExchangeFrom (high volume)Up to (small purchase)
KvarnX0.1%0.8%
Northcrypto0.6%1.0%
Coinmotion0.8%2.0%
eToro1.00%1.00% (fixed, not tiered)

Northcrypto is no longer the cheapest option in our comparison: KvarnX now beats it at every volume tier, and the gap grows with larger amounts (0.1% vs 0.6% at the highest volume). For a small, occasional purchase, however, Northcrypto (up to 1.0%) is clearly cheaper than Coinmotion (up to 2.0%) and roughly level with eToro's fixed 1.00%. Predictability speaks for Northcrypto: the tier updates automatically once a day and doesn't surprise you on a single trade.

How to open a Northcrypto account

From sign-up to your first purchase:

  1. Create an account with your email on Northcrypto's website and confirm the address via the link you receive.
  2. Verify your identity with Finnish online banking credentials. Northcrypto runs the KYC check automatically, without manual delay for most users.
  3. Answer a short questionnaire on the source of your funds and your investment experience, as required by anti-money laundering law.
  4. Make a SEPA deposit. The transfer typically arrives within a banking day; check the deposit fee in the price list.
  5. Buy your first cryptocurrency. A market order is usually executed within seconds.

Northcrypto fees

Northcrypto's trading fee is no longer one fixed percentage. In Advanced Trading the fee is tiered by your 30-day trading volume and recalculated automatically once a day: the more you trade within a month, the lower the fee. Alongside this, Northcrypto offers a separate Instant Buy and Autopilot feature for quicker, simpler buying, but its fee is clearly higher and it is not the same product as Advanced Trading:

EventFeeNote
Advanced Trading, €0–10,000 / 30 days1.0%Lowest tier, applies to most beginners
Advanced Trading, €10,000–100,0000.9%–
Advanced Trading, €100,000–1,000,0000.8%–
Advanced Trading, €1,000,000–3,000,0000.7%–
Advanced Trading, over €3,000,000From 0.6%Top tier
Instant Buy and Autopilot2–3%Fixed, depending on market volatility – a separate product, not the same as Advanced Trading
Deposit (Trustly, SEPA, crypto)€0Free
SEPA withdrawal€1.00Processed in 1 banking day
Withdrawal to your own walletNetwork feeNo separate Northcrypto fee

In practice, a small or occasional purchase in Advanced Trading pays the top rate of 1.0%, which only falls once your monthly trading volume grows. The tiering is still predictable because it updates automatically. The full, current price list is on Northcrypto's own website.

Northcrypto staking

Northcrypto also offers staking for Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL). According to its staking page, Northcrypto charges 25% of the gross rewards actually received, including the share of its validator partner Figment, and net rewards are credited weekly. Rewards are not guaranteed, and staked assets are not covered by deposit guarantee or investor compensation schemes. Staking rewards are taxable capital income in Finland when you receive them; see our guide to crypto staking in Finland.

Northcrypto in brief

Northcrypto competes above all with clear, tiered pricing: the Advanced Trading fee ranges from 0.6% to 1.0% depending on monthly volume, and there is a separate Instant Buy and Autopilot feature for quicker buying at 2–3%. It is no longer the cheapest option, as KvarnX now beats it at every volume tier, but its price list is public and predictable. The selection is smaller than Coinmotion's, but the most popular coins are there. The interface is more stripped-down than competitors', which suits you if you value simplicity over a wide selection or extra features.

Security and custody

Northcrypto holds a MiCA licence granted by the FIN-FSA, and the company says it keeps most funds in cold storage. As with other exchanges, we cannot verify the exact custody shares ourselves; this information is based on the company's own statement.

Is Northcrypto safe and reliable?

Northcrypto's track record since 2018 is shorter than Coinmotion's, so our assessment puts particular weight on its regulatory status:

  • Regulation: NorthCrypto Oy received a MiCA licence from the FIN-FSA on 25 November 2025 (source: ESMA's MiCA register, checked 5 October 2026).
  • Track record: shorter than the longest-running players, but no publicly known outages or insolvency incidents at the time of writing.
  • Transparent pricing: a public, tiered fee percentage without hidden spreads. The price list can be seen in advance, and the actual fee is shown on the trade receipt.

A shorter history means in practice that it makes sense to start with smaller amounts and increase your position only once you have more experience of the service. See also our guide to crypto scams in Finland, which applies whatever exchange you use.

Who is Northcrypto best for?

Northcrypto suits users who value transparent, predictable pricing and a simple interface. If your goal is the lowest possible trading fee at high volumes, look at KvarnX, which beats Northcrypto on price at every tier. If you want a wider coin selection or international extras, compare eToro as well.

How to buy crypto on Northcrypto

  2. Choose the cryptocurrency you want to buy. The most popular coins are listed; the selection is narrower than Coinmotion's.

Northcrypto user experiences 2026

  • Critical: some users would like a wider coin selection and more material for beginners.

Northcrypto and taxes in Finland

Like other Finnish exchanges, Northcrypto does not withhold tax; you report capital gains and losses yourself in your tax return. Trading fees are taken into account: the purchase fee is added to the acquisition cost and the sales fee is deducted from the sale price, so the taxable gain is calculated after fees (Tax Administration guidance, section 2.14). If you use the deemed acquisition cost, fees cannot be deducted separately. From the 2026 tax year, crypto service providers report their customers' transactions to the Tax Administration (Verohallinto), but reporting is still your own responsibility.

Selling for eurosCapital gain or loss, capital income tax 30% / 34%

Northcrypto review: frequently asked questions

Is Northcrypto a reliable choice for users in Finland?

Northcrypto is a Finnish operator supervised by the FIN-FSA and has been on the market since 2018. Its track record is shorter than Coinmotion's, but its licence meets the same regulatory requirements.

What is the difference between Northcrypto's Instant Buy and normal trading?

Instant Buy/Autopilot is a quick way to buy with a few clicks, but its fee (2–3%) is clearly higher than the tiered 0.6–1.0% of normal trading. The difference is essentially a fee for speed and simplicity. For larger or repeated purchases, normal trading almost always works out better.

Do trading fees reduce the tax I pay?

Yes. The capital gain is calculated by deducting the acquisition cost and expenses from the sale price, so the trading fee reduces your taxable gain. It is not a separate tax deduction but part of the acquisition or sales costs. If you use the deemed acquisition cost, fees cannot be deducted separately. Source: Tax Administration guidance on crypto-assets.

Does crypto income from Northcrypto appear automatically on my tax return?

No. Crypto sales are not pre-filled on your tax return, so you must add them yourself in OmaVero. From the 2026 tax year, crypto service providers report their customers' transactions to the Tax Administration, so omissions are easier to spot. Keep your transaction history.

Is Northcrypto available in English?

Northcrypto was built for Finnish users and its service is primarily in Finnish. Parts of its website, such as the staking terms, are also available in English. If you need to use the service and its support in English, check the current language options before depositing.

Is Northcrypto suitable for beginners?

Yes, especially thanks to Instant Buy, which makes the first purchase easy. If you trade actively or move larger amounts, though, get used to the normal trading view from the start, as its fee structure is much cheaper in the long run.
