What is Divly?

Divly is software specialising in crypto tax reporting. It was founded in Sweden in January 2021 by Carl Gärdsell and Ruben Rehn, two crypto investors who had grown frustrated with doing their own tax returns by hand. The service has since expanded to several European countries, but its focus is on the Nordics, where tax rules (such as Finland's deemed acquisition cost) differ significantly from those that US-based crypto tax services are built for.

Divly's own message is that it is the only tool on the market that applies Finland's deemed acquisition cost automatically. We have not gone through the whole competitive field to verify that claim, but the feature itself genuinely exists in the service.

Example: how an exchange's transaction history is imported into a tax service

Typically the transaction history of an exchange such as Coinmotion is downloaded as a CSV file and imported into the tax service. The service classifies the transactions automatically: purchases, sales and crypto-to-crypto swaps, which are separate disposals for tax purposes.

It is worth spot-checking the result, for example with our crypto tax calculator: calculate a few sales by hand with both the actual acquisition cost and the deemed acquisition cost and compare them with the service's figures. If they match, the report can be used as the basis for your tax return.

How Divly works for crypto taxes in Finland

  1. Import your transactions from wallets and exchanges, using an API key, a public wallet address or a CSV export (for example, Coinmotion's transaction history can be downloaded as a CSV from your exchange account).
  2. Divly classifies the transactions automatically: purchases, sales, crypto-to-crypto swaps, transfers between your own wallets and any staking rewards are separated.
  3. Check the classification: unclear or unrecognised transactions are left for you to mark, for example if funds were moved between wallets without a clear counterparty.
  4. Download the country-specific tax report, which for Finland is built in a format that fits MyTax (OmaVero).

The deemed acquisition cost and why it matters for crypto taxes in Finland

In Finnish crypto taxation, a capital gain is calculated using either the actual acquisition cost or the so-called deemed acquisition cost. The latter is 20% of the sale price (or 40% for assets held for at least 10 years), and you can choose it whenever it is more favourable than the actual cost or when the purchase price cannot be shown (Finnish Tax Administration).

This rule is specific to Finland, and most international crypto tax tools are not built for it. Divly calculates both options automatically for every sale and always uses the one that is more favourable to the taxpayer in the report.

The same logic is shown step by step in our crypto tax calculator for Finland, if you want to understand the principle before relying on it in automated form. The topic is covered more broadly in our guide to crypto taxes in Finland.

Divly pricing

Divly is not priced as a monthly subscription but as a one-off fee per tax year, tiered by the number of transactions processed and the level of support. On the free tier you can try the import and classification even with a large number of transactions without card details, but downloading the final tax report requires a paid tier.

Higher tiers add, among other things, a manual review of the report by an expert or full-service help with filing the tax return itself. Roughly speaking, the paid tiers range from about $49 to $299 depending on the number of transactions and the support level chosen, but prices change, so always check the current information on the service's own website before buying.

TierWhat's included
FreeImport and classification of transactions, no downloadable report
BasicDownloadable, country-specific tax report

Full serviceAll of the above plus personal guidance for filing the tax return

We don't list exact amounts here because they change and vary with the number of transactions. Check the current price list on Divly's own website.

Divly privacy

Divly states that it does not require user identification (no KYC process) and does not sell user data to third parties such as other companies. We have not technically audited the company's privacy practices; this information is based on the provider's own statement.

Divly: pros and cons

PROS
  • The only widely known tool that automates Finland's deemed acquisition cost
  • Supports importing from several exchanges and wallets into the same report
  • No KYC identification needed to get started
  • Free trial even with a large number of transactions before paying
CONS
  • The final report is behind a paywall
  • Unclear transactions (e.g. unrecognised wallet transfers) still need manual checking by the user
  • Does not replace tax advice in complex special cases

Who is Divly for?

Divly suits best someone who has traded on several exchanges or wallets and doesn't want to calculate the deemed acquisition cost and capital gains by hand line by line. If you have trading history on only one Finnish crypto exchange and a few dozen transactions a year, our tax calculator may be enough without a separate service.

Divly can also help if you moved to Finland and hold crypto bought while living elsewhere: once you are tax resident in Finland, sales are taxed under Finnish rules. See crypto taxes for expats in Finland.

Divly review: frequently asked questions

Does Divly work if I use several crypto exchanges?

Yes, that is exactly the situation the service is primarily built for. Transactions from different exchanges and wallets are combined into the same report, so capital gains are calculated across your whole history, not separately per exchange.

Does Divly replace the Finnish Tax Administration's guidance or a tax adviser?

No. Divly automates the calculation and the report, but in complex special situations (e.g. an unclear acquisition date or income taxed abroad) it is still worth checking the Tax Administration's own pages or asking a tax professional.

Does trying Divly cost anything?

Importing and classifying transactions is free without card details, even with a large number of transactions. You only pay when you want to download the final tax report that can be used for filing.

How do I get the Divly report into MyTax (OmaVero)?

Divly produces a ready capital gains calculation, and its figures are entered in MyTax under capital gains, with the asset type crypto-assets. The MyTax interface itself stays the same as without Divly; the service only speeds up the calculation step and does not replace filing the return.

What is the difference between Divly and Kryptoluotsi's crypto tax calculator?

Our tax calculator is suited to quickly sketching individual trades without creating an account. Divly imports your entire trading history from exchanges and wallets automatically, which makes sense once you have dozens or hundreds of transactions and don't want to calculate them by hand.

Does Divly work if some trades were made on an exchange that has closed?

Usually yes, if the old transaction history was downloaded as a CSV before the exchange closed or if the wallet addresses can still be traced on the blockchain. If the transaction data is no longer available anywhere, the gap has to be filled in manually. Deal with this in good time, not only when doing your tax return.
