Why withdrawal times can vary

The processing time of a withdrawal can depend on the time of day and the day of the week when you make the request. A request made outside banking days is usually processed on the next banking day. If a withdrawal occasionally takes longer than usual, it does not necessarily mean there is a problem with the service.

How to open a KvarnX account

Registration on KvarnX's renewed platform works like this:

  1. Create an account with your email and confirm the email address.
  2. Verify your identity with Finnish online banking credentials.
  3. Fill in a background questionnaire on the source of your funds and your investment experience.
  4. Make a SEPA deposit. The transfer typically arrives within a banking day.
  5. Buy your first cryptocurrency. A market order is usually executed within seconds.

Registration relies on Finnish bank identification. If you are new to Finland, see buying crypto without Finnish bank ID.

KvarnX fees

KvarnX's trading fee is not fixed but tiered by your trading volume over the previous 90 days. Of the four exchanges we compare, KvarnX is now the cheapest with this price list, at both small and large volumes.

EventFeeNote
Trading (buy/sell)0.1–0.8%Tiered by 90-day trading volume, at least €1 per trade
SEPA deposit€0Free
SEPA withdrawal€0Typical SEPA processing time 1–2 banking days

The tiers are calculated over a rolling 90-day window:

  • €0–10,000 (Level 3): 0.8%
  • €10,000–100,000 (Level 2): 0.6%
  • €100,000–500,000 (Level 1): 0.4%
  • €500,000–5,000,000 (VIP): 0.3%
  • €5,000,000–20,000,000 (Professional): 0.2%
  • Over €20,000,000 (Institutional): 0.1%

Every tier also has a minimum fee of €1. It matters most for small purchases: 0.8% of a €100 purchase would be only €0.80, but the actual charge is €1 because the percentage stays below the minimum. You can find the current price list on KvarnX's own website.

KvarnX in brief

KvarnX is a newcomer, founded only in 2023, and this shows in two ways. The interface is modern and clear with a wide coin selection, and it is designed to be easy even for first-time buyers. On the other hand, the short track record means there is less evidence of the service's long-term reliability than for older players. On price, though, KvarnX is already the cheapest of the four exchanges we compare, at both small and large trading volumes.

Security and custody

KvarnX holds a MiCA licence granted by the FIN-FSA, and the company says it follows cold storage practices similar to its more established competitors. Because it only started in 2023, there is inevitably less data on its long-term reliability than for, say, Coinmotion, which has operated for more than a decade.

Is KvarnX safe and reliable?

When assessing a newer player, we pay particular attention to its regulatory status and how well it has already adapted to it:

  • Regulation: the parent company Kvarn Capital Oy received a MiCA licence from the FIN-FSA on 2 December 2025 (source: ESMA's MiCA register, checked 5 October 2026). MiCA requirements apply to KvarnX just as they do to older players; being new does not mean lighter supervision.
  • Historical context: past exchange collapses in the industry (such as the internationally known Mt. Gox case) are a reminder that neither age nor regulation ever completely removes custody risk. That is why we don't recommend keeping large amounts on one platform for a long time.
  • Track record: KvarnX has only operated since 2023, so there is less evidence of long-term operation than for older players.

Who is KvarnX best for?

KvarnX suits users who value a wide coin selection, a modern interface and low trading fees, and who don't mind slightly more variable withdrawal times than at the longest-running competitors. It is also KvarnX that brought ETH staking to its platform in 2024 together with the Danish provider Northstake; check the current staking terms in the service.

  1. Open your portfolio and select the cryptocurrency you want to sell.
  2. Enter the amount to sell.

KvarnX: pros and cons

PROS
  • Modern, clear and beginner-friendly interface
  • Wide coin selection compared with Northcrypto
  • Lowest trading fee in our comparison, from 0.1% and tiered by volume
  • Free SEPA deposits and withdrawals
CONS
  • Shortest track record of the four exchanges compared (since 2023)
  • Less long-term evidence because of the short history
  • The €1 minimum fee can feel relatively large on very small purchases

KvarnX user experiences 2026

KvarnX is still young, so there is less public user feedback than for more established competitors. Recurring themes:

  • Positive: users often praise the clear interface and the wide coin selection.
  • Critical: variation in withdrawal speed is mentioned occasionally.

KvarnX and taxes in Finland

KvarnX does not withhold tax for you; you report capital gains and losses to the Tax Administration yourself. For tax purposes, KvarnX is no different from other Finnish exchanges: selling crypto for euros or for another cryptocurrency is always a taxable disposal.

EventTax consequence
Selling for eurosCapital gain or loss, capital income tax 30% / 34%
Crypto-to-crypto swapTaxable disposal
Deemed acquisition cost20% (40% if held over 10 years)

KvarnX review: frequently asked questions

Why is KvarnX's score lower than Coinmotion's or Northcrypto's?

The score is mainly due to its shorter track record, not any single serious problem. We will keep following KvarnX and update the review as the service builds a longer history.

Is KvarnX a safe and regulated service?

KvarnX is operated by the Finnish company Kvarn Capital Oy, which holds a MiCA licence granted by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority. Customer assets are kept separate from the company's own assets, which protects them in a possible insolvency.

Why is a €100 purchase charged more than the 0.8% fee suggests?

Every tier has a minimum fee of €1 per trade. On a small purchase the percentage stays below the minimum, so you are always charged at least €1. Keep this in mind especially for repeated small purchases, because the minimum takes a relatively larger share of a small amount.

Can I withdraw crypto from KvarnX to my own wallet?

Yes, you can withdraw crypto from KvarnX to an external, self-custody wallet address just like on other exchanges. Check the withdrawal fee and processing time in the service before a larger transfer.

Is KvarnX the cheapest option in every situation?

Not always. At the lowest tier (€0–10,000) the fee is 0.8%, similar to some competitors, and the €1 minimum fee can make very small repeated purchases relatively more expensive than at a competitor with a flat percentage. At higher volumes, KvarnX's tiers become clearly advantageous.
